The multi-flowered spikes of moth orchids or Phalaenopsis can last two or three months. Healthy plants might even bloom twice a year. See why these area an attractive choice? Moth orchid blossoms come in many hues but are usually white or lavender-pink. They often have stripes or a contrasting center.
While ladyslippers (Paphiopedilum) can be in bloom for anywhere from four to 12 weeks. Some may bloom all at once. Making for one spectacular display. Others put out a few flowers at a time - on and off all year long. Throw in an ample supply of warts, hairs, and handsome green, tan, or mahogany stripes and you get a particularly exotic look that people either love - or hate.
