Growing Orchids for Beginners - Proper Watering Tips
Orchid Watering Rule of Thumb: Water your orchids only when their potting mix has dried out completely.That means you MIGHT water once or twice a week during warm weather or periods of vigorous growth. And water less often in cool weather or as growth slows.
A good way to water orchids is to hold your pot over the sink and add water until it has drained out the bottom for about half a minute. At that point it's soaked. So stop watering. Let the pot drain for a few minutes before putting it back on your window sill.

Don't water your orchids with either softened or very hard water. Hard water is laden with calcium. While the sodium in softened water can be a problem for your plants. To fix this you can try using 50% tap water mixed with 50% distilled water to dilute the minerals. Catching rainwater is another alternative.
